The current laws regarding concussions did not come without human cost, and it is important to learn from the pain and suffering of others in order to prevent future generations from suffering the same consequences. As a direct result of the incident involving Zackery Lystedt, Washington was the first state to require removal from play and medical clearance. Now all 50 states have laws regarding concussion management and return to play procedures.
